Florida Citrus Crop Holding On
It’s “steady as she goes,” according to USDA’s latest Florida citrus 2014-2015 crop estimate.
The February report, virtually unchanged from last month, repeats Florida overall orange production at 103 million boxes (48 million early, midseason, Navel, and Temple varieties + 55 million Valencias).
January’s forecast saw the season’s first reduction from the initial estimate of 108 million boxes.
“We still have a few months left in the season, but it is good to see the estimate stabilize a bit — especially in this challenging environment,” said Mike Sparks, executive VP/CEO of Florida Citrus Mutual.
Florida grapefruit production prediction held steady at 15 million boxes.
The projection for frozen concentrated orange juice dropped slightly to 1.57 gallons per box.
