Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention To go Virtual for 2021
It’s almost time for the Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention, which takes place this year February 8 to 11. Like other major industry trade shows, it will be virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
Here’s what you need to know about attending the show and its stellar conference:
Registration
Registration can be completed online and is $40 per person. For $40, one will be allowed into the virtual expo center and attend any of the educational events. This is a flat rate for both members and non-members.
Education Schedule
Education events are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Eastern, with three tracks running concurrently with one another. Each concurrent class targets a different type of grower. So classes on hydroponic/greenhouse vegetables, for example, occurs in the time slot as honeybees and pollination courses and post-harvest food safety.
Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention will record all education sessions. You’ll be able to access them through March.
The official schedule can be found online.
Education en Español
A new addition the convention is the Spanish courses. Mario Miranda Sazo, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Sergio Rosario, and Silvia Rosario, co-founders and co-owners of Rosario Brothers LLC. lead these courses, which will take place February 10. They, too, will be recorded.
Poster Competition
This year, there will be a poster competition for graduate students to display their research on fruit and vegetables. These will be visible on the online expo site.
Awards
While the awards banquet will be canceled this year, there will be a site available show the winners of various awards this year.
Don’t Forget Your Ice Cream
As is tradition in when the Convention is in Hershey, there will be an ice cream social event at 7 P.M. EST for growers to connect over a bowl of ice cream. Bring your favorite bowl of ice cream and have a chance to network and socialize with the other attendees.
