How Hurricane Ian Affected Growers — Thousands of Miles from the Storm

Produce growers across most of Florida are dealing with the damage left behind by Hurricane Ian. The direct impact is immense and ongoing. However, the major storm’s strain on agriculture stretches beyond the Sunshine State – quite far, actually. Shay Myers, CEO of Owyhee Produce in Parma, ID, says Hurricane Ian sent a big ripple in the supply chain — across the entire country. Even his operation, which is more than 2,000 miles from where the storm struck, experienced disruption in distribution.

Myers, who has an impressive following on social media, posted a recent TikTok explaining the situation for consumers from the perspective of a producer. “No one in the supply chain wants there to be a lack of produce on the shelf, regardless of what happens …”

As of this post, Myers’ TikTok on the subject has gotten more than 112,000 views!
