Momentum Grows in Framework for New Farm Bill Legislation
June 13, 2024 Framework for the 2024 Farm Bill was recently released by Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member John Boozman. The framework reflects efforts needed to modernize the legislation for a changing world.
“From the onset of this process, we have sought to draft a farm bill that reflects the needs of stakeholders,” Boozman says. “The world has changed dramatically since the 2018 bill became law, and the unprecedented challenges and economic uncertainty that farmers face now are only projected to get worse in the coming years. This is why producers have been calling on senators to put more farm in the farm bill.”
Among the key priorities of the Republican framework for the 2024 Farm Bill are:
- Modernizes the farm safety net to ensure producers have risk management tools that reflect the current and projected economic challenges they face
- Restores U.S. leadership in the global agricultural marketplace and repositions U.S. producers as the world’s export leaders
- Jump-starts chronically underfunded agricultural research programs and facilities, allowing the U.S.to reclaim our rightful place at the forefront of innovation
- Facilitates a historic expansion of popular conservation Programs, ensuring producers achieve stewardship goals while best addressing their unique and varied needs
- Empowers the next generation of farmers to take the reins by helping them harness opportunities to grow and succeed

The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance issued a statement following the release of the farm bill framework by Boozman.
A portion of the organization’s statement reads as follows: “We are encouraged to see indications that Sen. Boozman’s proposal includes key investments for specialty crops and look forward to reviewing the details as they become available. We now urge the leaders of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees to come together and draft a bipartisan farm bill that can be signed into law this year.”
