Should Consumers Be Worried About Their Food Supply? Maybe
“No farmers, no food.” It’s a simple thought, but one that couldn’t be more true. Despite this, farmers around the world continue to feel stress from growing geopolitical pressures. Climate change legislation is pushing some to a boiling point.
For example, Dutch farmers have been riled up for some time now over government proposals to drastically reduce nitrogen emissions. The agenda could and would lead to shuttered farms, thus putting a strain on food supply. A similar situation is playing out for Brazilian farmers, too.
Shay Myers, an American vegetable grower and social media influencer, is addressing this global food supply topic in a recent TikTok post.
The CEO of Owyhee Produce in Parma, ID, writes: “Farmers all over the world are coming under pressure to stay in business. It seems like the citizens that they feed, and the government that taxes them no longer want them in business. #farming #holland #dutch #foodsecurity #nofarmersnofood”
