David Biddinger, tree fruit research entomologist with Penn State University, discusses control options for San Jose Scale (SJS), which can appear when using sprays to control Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB).

Although Biddinger acknowledges that SJS is easy to control with many options available to growers, prevention is the best cure.

“It is also a dangerous pest to leave uncontrolled. After a few years of heavy infestation, limbs and even small trees can be killed and the percentage of infested fruit can reach over 80% in only a season or two,” he writes.
