Needles Found In Honeycrisp Sold At Grocery Store
A woman who purchased Honeycrisp apples from a supermarket in Fallbrook, CA, said last week she sliced into apples and found a sewing needle inside.
She reported the incident to the San Diego County Sheriff when she sliced into another apple and found another needle.
The sheriff’s department is investigating the incident and will check the needles for forensic evidence. Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Yates says employees reviewed surveillance and did not notice anything suspicious.
“We have no reason to believe that any other fruit has been tampered with, including more apples,” Yates wrote in an email to the San Diego Union-Tribune. “However, cutting any piece of fruit from that store into small pieces would be a good idea to prevent possible injury should that piece of fruit have been tampered with.”
