Table Grape Exports Take Hit from Tariffs
According to The Bakersfield Californian, prices for table grapes have fallen by about 40% this year; and almond prices have dropped between 5% and 9%. Table grape growers have seen a 53% tariff on exports and almond growers have been met with 50% tariffs.
Grape grower Mark Hall told The Californian that although the season is early, growers are unloading their grapes early to avoid having unsold produce.
“I think there can be (a price recovery), because we’re still into and going into our good (product) movement weeks,” Jerry DiBuduo told The Californian, noting most of his crop has yet to be harvested. “So, everybody’s waiting to see and hear and feel what (future prices) are going to look like.”
