On a snowy April morning, Bob Rogish and Dave Patterson from Patterson Fruit Farm in Chesterland, OH, and Ben (pictured) and Bob Sage of Sage’s Apples Fruit Farm in Chardon, OH, visited American Fruit Grower headquarters in Willoughby, OH, to prune our 20-plus-year-old orchard.
The orchard features some crosses of Malspur and Liberty, Liberty and Delicious, and Liberty and Delicious Triploid, as well as Jonafree, Red Free, Novamac, Liberty, Nova Easygro, Freedom, and Priscilla. The trees are planted on M.9 and P.22 rootstock in a modified tatura trellis.
“We picked those varieties because they were scab-resistant,” says Richard Meister, Chairman Emeritus and Editor-At-Large.
