Researchers Studying Spotted Wing Drosophila Attractants

Growers can commiserate on the challenges of controlling spotted wing drosophila. Meanwhile, a new study published in a recent Environmental Entomology, suggests discoveries of SWD’s habits can help bolster the design of effective baits for the pest.

Michigan State University research by Juan Huang, Ph.D. and her colleagues built on previous studies of the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar, wine, yeast, and synthetic chemicals, fine-tuning the different proportions of yeast and wine-vinegar solutions were effective as attractants, reports EntomologyToday.
