Spotted Lanternfly Spreading its Wings to Maryland

The Maryland Department of Agriculture confirmed that spotted lanternfly has reached the state. A single adult male lanternfly has been found on a trap in Cecil County, near the border of Pennsylvania and Delaware.

This is the first find of spotted lanternfly in the state.

The invasive pest has spread in Pennsylvania and has been found in Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey, and New York.

The Kim Rice says in a statement to The Washington Post that “Early detection is key to stopping the spotted lanternfly from spreading.”
