Workshop Focuses On Dust Management At Harvest
The Almond Board of California is hosting a “Managing Dust at Harvest” workshop on July 15 in Modesto. This workshop will address dust reduction techniques, air quality regulations and funding opportunities. Also, almond harvest equipment manufacturers will demonstrate new technologies and innovations in dust reduction.
Speaking will be experts from University of California-Davis, San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the Almond Board. In addition, almond harvest equipment manufacturers will showcase new technology and innovations related to dust reduction. Equipment and representatives from Exact, Flory, and Weiss McNair will be featured in a round-robin style presentation.
“Orchard-by-orchard harvest decisions don’t seem impactful on the large scale, but the combined effects of those decisions create a picture of the whole industry for our neighbors,” Gabriele Ludwig, Almond Board’s director of sustainability, said. “It is important that the entire almond growing community shows leadership on this issue by taking steps to reduce dust at harvest. Commitment to being good neighbors starts in each field and means thinking outside the orchard.”
The “Managing Dust at Harvest” workshop is from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and includes a complimentary lunch. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. at the Modesto Junior College Ag Pavilion, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto, CA. Please RSVP by contacting Rebecca Bailey at [email protected] or 209-343-3245.
Those who are not able to attend this workshop can review the Almond Board’s new quick guide, “Managing Dust at Harvest.” The guide features specific strategies to minimize harvest air quality impacts and was developed from Board-funded dust and air quality research.
