Global agribusiness giant Syngenta has announced the purchase of independent vegetable seed breeder, producer, and marketer Abbott & Cobb. Company officials confirm the acquisition was finalized at the end of March.

In its announcement, Syngenta emphasized Abbott & Cobb’s sweet corn seed line, indicating what led to the acquisition of the Feasterville, PA-based company that has been in operation for more than 100 years (founded in 1917).

“Abbott & Cobb is a strategic acquisition for Syngenta Vegetable Seeds and it will give us access to high eating quality germplasm, and early maturity varieties to complement the Syngenta portfolio,” Javier Martinez-Cabrera, Syngenta Head of Vegetables Seeds North America, says in the announcement.
