CDC: Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Imported Cucumbers Is Over
The food-borne illness outbreak involving Salmonella-tainted cucumbers appears to be over, according to a March 18 report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). To date, a total of 907 people from 40 states have been infected with the pathogen. The source of the outbreak has not been definitively identified.
The CDC, multiple states, and FDA investigated the outbreak of Salmonella Poona infections. Six people died as a result of eating the contaminated produce.
The “likely source” of the outbreak pinpointed cucumbers imported from Mexico and distributed by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce. Two recalls of cucumbers that may have been contaminated were announced in September 2015 as a result of the investigation into Andrew & Williamson and Custom Produce Sales, states the CDC report. The source of contamination for the cucumbers distributed by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce has not been identified.
