Cucurbit Growers in the U.S. Report a Strong Year

Most vegetable operations produce cucurbits. Of the 598 growers responding to American Vegetable Grower’s 2022 State of the Vegetable Industry survey, 362 grow cucurbits (61%).

The two groups’ customer bases are strikingly different. Cucurbit growers are much more likely to sell directly to consumers (85% compared to 35%). Those who do not grow cucurbits, in contrast, are much more likely to sell to supermarkets (46% vs. 26%), warehouses (22% vs. 7%), and canneries/processors (34% vs. 10%).
