Fresh Express Recalls Salad Mixes Implicated in Midwest Outbreak
As the Cyclospora outbreak investigation continues, Fresh Express has recalled its private label bagged salads originating from its Streamwood, IL, facility. The bagged salads contain iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and/or carrots.
Fresh Express processed the salad products for stores implicated in the CDC and FDA investigations — Aldi, Hy-Vee, and Jewel-Osco. It also provides private label bagged salads for other regional chains, including Giant Eagle, ShopRite, and Walmart.
CDC and FDA officials confirm the outbreak likely traces to the Fresh Express facility. Officials are investigating if any other products processed at in Streamwood, IL, contain Cyclospora.
Outbreak Updates
As of June 29, health officials confirmed 206 people with Cyclospora infection across eight states. Of those 206, 23 required hospitalization.
