Growers Issue Two Different Parsley Recalls This Week
Buurma Farms and Dole Fresh Vegetables both issued recalls for parsley this week due to possible E. coli contamination. FDA says no illnesses have been reported for either recall. The two groups are recalling different types of parsley. Buurma is recalling flat parsley, while Dole is recalling curly leaf parsley.
The parsley recall by Buurma involves a late season harvest (August 30) from its Gregory, MI, location. It shipped to Ohio and Michigan between August 31 and September 3. A routine sample testing came back positive for E. coli. FDA says the parsley is being genome sequenced to determine if its pathogenic.
The Dole recall involves curly leaf parsley harvested August 18-19, also in Michigan. The positive result was from a single sample test. The Dole parsley shipped to Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Missouri.
