A deep-rooted standout in domestic celery production, Duda Farm Fresh Foods reports that it’s investing in research to add six more patents to its stable of varietals. To support the success of the new celery selections, Duda also will be looking to bring new breeders on board. The company confirms joining Duda breeders Vicki and Larry Pierce will be Catherine Cellon (Belle Glade, FL), Colleen Kennedy (Salinas, CA), and Cole Hendrix (Oxnard, CA).

“We are completely devoted to providing products based on consumer preferences, so we see this advancement in research necessary to deliver on this promise,” stated Dan Duda, President of Central Florida-based Duda Farm Fresh Foods. “Adding to our research program is something we are looking forward to and cannot wait to see what [the rest of] 2018 has in store.”

According to background data from Duda, its celery program comprises 183 years of research and 33 patents that contribute to enhancing flavor and quality. The new patents will allow the company to expand its celery program through development of unique varieties and flavor profiles that are sweeter, crisper, and have less strings. Duda plans to continue supporting the needs of shoppers who are looking for convenient, fresh produce items by supplying them with pre-washed, pre-cut snack pack options.
