Mushrooms Source of Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak

Researchers have traced a recent multi-state Salmonella outbreak to mushrooms popular with Asian restaurants.

The CDC reports large bags of dried wood ear mushrooms shipped to restaurants in several states were contaminated. Wismettac Asian Foods distributed the bags and has issued a recall.

Although the CDC does not directly address where the mushrooms originated, Wismettac is an importer/exporter distributor.

At this time, although authorities report that only 41 people have been infected so far, four of them have been hospitalized. The outbreak is in 10 states, scatter across the U.S..
